Install Decoder For Windows Media Player

Hi Rebecca,

Codec (coder-decoder) is a program that compresses data to enable faster transmission and decompresses received data. Most of the time, this issue occurs when a codec that is required to play the file is not installed on the computer. For us to come up with the proper resolution, we would like to ask for additional information:

  • Since when have you been experiencing the issue? Is this the first time that you encountered this?
  • Were there any changes made on your device prior to this?
  • Have you tried copying your music files to another device? If so, kindly check if the same issue persists.

Meanwhile, try to run the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter to automatically diagnose and resolve issues with your Windows Media Player. To do this:

Install Divx Codec Windows Media Player

1. Go to Control Panel.

2. In the search bar, at the top right, type 'troubleshooting'.

3. Click on the result.

Install Codec Windows Media Player 12

4. Click View all from the list on the left.

5. Select Windows Media Player Settings. Then, select Next and follow the steps in the wizard.

We look forward to your response.

Are you seriously telling us that Microsoft does not have a prepackaged Windows Media Player Codec Pack that can be downloaded from a Microsoft site, that your position is for us to download from a site we know nothing about and take our chances on getting a virus? Really? The least you could do is to recommend a none Microsoft site from which to download. That, at least, would give some measure of confidence that we're not going to get jammed by the other site.

Media player only ever did download MS CODECs. Those are already included in Win7. 3rd party CODECs always had to be downloaded separately or were installed along with media related apps that used them. 3rd party CODECs are subject to other parties copyrights and licencing fees, with a few being open-source or free. Downloaded codec packs don't neccessarily include legal copies of copyrighted codecs and the installers may also replace your legitimate functional codecs with illicit or outdated versions, or poor quality hacks.

Install FFDSHOW instead and you'll likely not need any other CODECs. http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
